A hiatus!

Hey, folks. So, some unfortunate news — I (the lead in this project on the design front) have been forced to relocate both my workspace and apartment in the next month or so. As a result, this Kickstarter is going to have to be pushed back from the proposed October launch date to early in 2015, as November and December are not the best times for many people to splurge on themselves! What does this mean for you? Well, the laser cutter will already be purchased, and more time will be put into the prototyping phase. In short, a product with more design and prototype work, finished samples for all of you to see, and more designs!

Stay tuned here, though. While updates will be less frequent, they will still come.

Episode IV: A New Level of Detail

Standard

We’ve made (in limited production runs) 6mm miniatures from laser cut components before, and with each generation, our quality and level of detail improve. Below is a hover tank through three generations of production and refinement. (Earliest to latest go from left to right.)

This newest line features finer detail than ever before, as shown with this test cut (which is the top piece of the rebel ship shown a few days ago):

My, my; Is that a landing pad I spy?

Standard

The turrets are trucking along, but the landing pad is fully ready for cutting! The pad is 160mm x 80mm, making it exactly the size of 2 large- or 8 small-based X-wing miniatures. And it’s going to look killer with the Tydirium sitting atop it! Here’s a preview of the file with two pads on it. This is to be made of 1/8 inch thick acrylic. Enjoy, and more updates are coming soon!

They’re evading our turbolasers!

Standard

While work continues on the ships, here’s a preview of some other stuff that’s in the works. I bet y’all will recognize some of these shapes! (The two squares with X’s are standard X-wing Large and Small bases, for size reference. Yup, the terrain is that disgustingly detailed.) Now, these will be made of primarily 1/8th inch (~3mm) and 1/16th inch (~1.5mm), both of which are very sturdy, lightweight, and very, very solid. None of that flimsy paper nonsense or lugging around ten pounds of resin tomfoolery from us. No bubbles from casting, and no molds that get worn out.
